HOW DID THE "SPARROW OF GOLD" BECAME A MOUND OF MUD?

In 1945 ITALY LAY IN RUINS and was so DEVASTATED and POOR that Italian maidens would offer their bodies to any Amerian GI for a packet of cigarettes. A bar of chocolate was the biggest LUXURY in life.

In that year our India was "SONAY KI CHIDIYA" (SPARROW OF GOLD) and even MOHAMMEDAN poets used to call it "Dearest land of all, O' my Hindustan!"

Then how is it that today Italy is among the WEALTHIEST countries on earth while our own BHARAT is among the POOREST?

We ought to know the answer so that we could do soemthing to bring our Bharat "mata" up to half the prosperity of Sonia's land of birth.
