COMMENT; The ground situation is changing daily. The terrain in Kashmir favors defense. When India attacks POK, it has to be a second front in the war against terror.
Note that Gen. Musharraf has essentially said that he cannot dismantle the terrorist bases that have relocated in POK.
So, India must ensure that she has fulll supplies, logistical support AND A CLEAR OBJECTIVE OF WHAT THE WAR IS SUPPOSED TO ACCOMPLISH. Without clearly defined objectives, a war cannot achieve anything.
(The clearly defined objective has to be DISMANTLING OF PARTITION THAT WAS BOGUS, IMMORAL, NON SECULAR AND WITHOUT REFERENDUM.)
COMMENT 2: True enough. But we are not going to fight just a ground war in Kashmir or any where else in Pakistan. It is going to be a Combination-War, with the usage of Combined Arms (Army, Navy, and Air Force, including the Missiles). The Pakis are familiar with this Indian Capability, and so are the Indians.
COMMENT 1. When India attacks POK, it has to be a second front in the war against terror.
COMMENT 2: The battle tactics of the war (including the number of war fronts needed) are best left to the professional people, the generals. The Civilian Bosses ought to tell them what to do, but not how to do their job. The generals know how many armored divisions and brigades they have at their disposal, and where they ought to be deployed, to speedily open up corridors into Pakistan.
Of course, before all of it, the major missile, radar, aircraft, and naval ship targets in Pakistan would have been identified and located, for pounding by the Indian Military Forces. The Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy would have softened up their Paki Counterparts, that come to confront them.
What this means is that the Port of Karachi would be destroyed along with most the Paki Navy. The Indian Air Force, with its BVR and other capabilities, would be moving aggressively to destroy Paki Air Force, and degrade its capability either to defend or support its ground forces.
Don't underestimate the capabilities of the modern aircraft of IAF in decimating the Paki Tanks.
Instead of two fronts we can have three or four fronts: POK Front, Panjab and Rajasthan Fronts, Gujrat Front.
We could make a Pincer Movement into POK and cut it off from the rest of Pakistan. Then begin the work of bursting the 75 Terrorist Camps that have been identified and documented.
Indian Forces in the other two fronts will be kept in Standby Position, to respond if Pakistan tries anything funny (called Spoiling Action) in these two areas.
This Limited Action, while destroying most of Paki Navy and Paki Air Force, would have additionally eliminated POK and its 75 Terrorist Camps.
This will convince the International Community, that India's Aims are limited, that India only wants to stop infiltration and terrorism against its own country (this is technically a defensive action), not physically occupy the land mass of the rest of Pakistan (which would be classed as an offensive action).
This kind of war, though demolishing the Fighting-Machine of Pakistan, still it cannot be classed anything other than a limited war.
When the cease-fire is declared and accepted, Indian Forces should have moved to new defensive position west of POK. What this means is this, that India has taken over POK, the Kashmir problem has passed away in history, it has ceased to exist.
This One Front or Three Front War (whichever label you want to put on it) shall be classed as a Limited War, although it would have destroyed most of Paki Navy and Paki Air Force, as well as POK and its Terrorist Camps.
The Indian Forces shall have to keep their finger ready on the Nuclear Trigger. At the slightest indication of a Paki Intention to use the Nuclear Weapons, the full fury of the Indian Nuclear Weapons (Atomic as well as Hydrogen Weapons) shall be unleashed against Pakistan, to send it back to Dark Ages, to Hazrat Mohammad's Time (and deliver each Paki Sulla into the company of his Super-Favorite 72 houris in Islam's Janat).
General Paddy (General Padamnabhan) has already astutely let Mushy know, in no uncertain terms, what would happen if he (Mushy) gets any crazy ideas, regarding usage of nuclear weapons. Mushy is a risk-taker, but he is not Dumb.
Comment 1: Note that Musharraf has essentially said that he cannot dismantle the terrorist bases that have relocated in POK.
Comment 2: There is no doubt about that. Instead of a Front-Door War, Mushy is using the Back-Door War against India, employing Terrorism as "The Weapon Of Choice."
Of course, he denies aiding the Terrorists, and has succeeded in fooling the USA. Regardless, inspite of his grandiose promises and speeches on the TV, Mushy has totally failed to dismantle Terrorist-Camps in POK.
It becomes our righteous duty/business, and our right to do the dismantling ourselves. That is the right way to solve our terrorism problem from across the LOC, it is also the right answer to our Terrorism-Problem.
Comment 1: So, ensure that you have fulll supplies, logistical support AND A CLEAR OBJECTIVE OF WHAT A WAR IS SUPPOSED TO ACCOMPLISH. Without clearly defined objectives, a war cannot achieve anything.
Comment 2: Yes indeed. Knowledge of truth, vision, and clarity of goal are important in winning wars.
In addition, rather than spending money on Kashmir, that Mr. Vajpayee just announced, this money should be spent on upgrading the equipment of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and on taking care of the families of the military personnel.
Any left over funds, can be spent on the displaced Kashmiri Pandits. I would not spend one red cent on the good-for-nothing Sullas of Kashmir.
We have been spending money on Sullas Of Kashmir for years and years, without much effect on them, most of whom still favor Pakistan. I would not spend any money on those good-for-nothing Sullas.
