Muslims: Terrorists? A Look at The Koran... The Core of Islam

Since the attacks of September 11th, many of us have taken a closer look at the religion of Islam. Before September 11th, I always considered those of the Muslim faith to be peace-loving individuals. I always thought of the Koran as a book of peaceful guidance for the Muslim people.
Recently I decided to look further into the Muslim religion. So I went straight to the Koran: the core of Islam. What I have found is absolutely shocking! According to the Koran, Osama bin Laden should be great among the Muslims. Osama bin Laden is not a Muslim fanatic. He is a true Muslim. What do I mean by this?
Surah 8:60 says, "Against them (unbelievers) make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly." Strike terror into your enemies? Does this sound familiar?
Surah 9:29 says, "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." I don't think it can be any clearer than this! This simply states that they are to fight all who do not believe in Allah!
(Remarks by G.C.Asnani : The author is right; I myself went through the Koran to get rid of ignorance and see why, on the whole, Muslims have murderous tendencies. The answer was in The Holy Quran. To hunt for Bin Laden and to praise the Holy Quran at the same time are self-contradictory. I agree with this author that Bin Laden is a true Muslim. )

Surah 9:5 in the Koran says,"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem; but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful." All non-believers of Islam are the "Pagans" that this refers to.
Surah 5:51 says, "O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people." According to this we can't even be "friends" of the Muslims!
At this point you may be thinking, "Why don't all Muslims attack and despise Christians?" For this simple point: All Muslims don't follow the Koran to every detail. Most Muslims seem to overlook the killing of the infidels. But others, such as Osama bin Laden, do their best to follow every command of the Koran. September 11th is the result of this. The worst thing that could happen in America right now is if the Muslims have a spiritual revival.
Now I want to make this following sentence very clear. Most Muslims are caring, peace-loving people. I have nothing against any of them, personally. I only have a beef with Osama and other "true Muslims". It wouldn't matter to me whether he was "Muslim" or "Christian".
While gathering information for this article, I corresponded with several Muslims. These Muslims knew that I was a Christian, yet they were very helpful and kind. This is the way that I feel most Muslims are today.
In the aftermath of 9/11, many Muslims have experienced death threats and insults of all kinds. I find this appalling! Most of these people were just as shocked and outraged as you and I. They should be treated with the same respect and dignity as you and I. We may have differing religious beliefs, but that doesn't mean that we can't live in peace with each other. As long as they don't take a literal view of the Koran they will continue to be a peaceful people.
What I would like to see now is more Islamic leaders coming out and condemning the attacks of 9/11. I sometimes wonder if they aren't willing to do this because they know what the Koran really says. And by denouncing Osama bin Laden, they will be, in essence, denouncing their own religion.
My hope with this column is that Muslims will look into these verses from the Koran and re-consider their religious beliefs. Picking up the Bible and putting down the Koran is a good start.
