...........................MULTAN
..................LONG LIVE AKHAND BHARAT
Many of our eminent leaders had given the assurance that at no price would partition be accepted. They had vowed that Pakistan would come into being over their dead bodies. Bu when the time came, these leaders proved false. They surrendered before Muslim League goondaism. They could not resist the temptation of ascending the throne of power and signed the partition agreement. They threw their pledges t the wind. But even in those days there were quite a few young men who had taken a similar pledge and actually lived by it. One such young man was in Multan who had vowed in a public meeting that the country would be partitioned only over the pieces of his body. He said he would lay down his lie on the line for the sake of Akhand Bharat, and he literally did so. His body was cut into pieces, but till the last breath he shouted, "LONG LIVE AKHAND BHARAT".
This young man of Multan was Nanak Singh, a leading lawyer and president of Multan Division Minorities Association as well as Akhand Bharat Organisation. He was fearless, and a patriot to the core.
Multan was a prosperous city before the partition, and an important commercial centre. It was on the trade and strategic route between India and the Middle East. According to popular belief this was where Bhakta Prahlad's story took place. It had a big Prahlad Temple where the devout thronged.
On March 4, 1947, the peace of this peaceful city was shattered. It cannot be said that this happened suddenly. For it was the inevitable consequence of the venomous hate campaign unleashed by the Muslim League. The trouble that began on March 4 grew into a terrible carnage by the very next day. Streets were littered with corpses. Houses were torched, and the screams of men, women and children trapped in them rent the skies. The stench of burning flesh filled the atmosphere.
By the evening of March 2, the news had spread like wild fire all over Multan that Khizr Hayat Khan had surrendered before the Muslim League's goondaism and his Unionist government had fallen. This even was a big blow for advocates of Akhand Bharat and glad news for the Leaguers. The Akhand Bharat Organisation immediately contacted the Punjab Provincial Congress headquarters to inquire if any prominent leader would come down from Lahore to attend an "Akhand Bharat" rally that was planned. They also asked if the determination for Akhand Bharat was unshaken. The reply received was that the national leadership was adamant on the question of Akhand Bharat and not an inch of Indian territory would be surrendered to Muslim fundamentalists, come what may. The assurance was also given that the meeting of March 4 would be attended by provincial leader Saifuddin Kitchlew.
On the evening of March 4, a huge crowd assembled at Kupp Maidan for the meeting. Everyone was in high spirits and slogans of "Akhand Bharat AMAR RAHE!" filled the air. In addition to Sardar Nanak Singh, the meeting was also addressed by Hindu leaders like Master Lal Chand, Choudhary Fateh Chand Buttan, etc. Saifuddin Kitchlew, who had come down from Lahore, blessed the meeting. Nanak Singh's speech was forceful and greatly enthused the audience. Clapping and slogans like "Akhand Bharat Zindabad" and "Hindu Muslim Ekta Zindabad" filled the air.
In his speech Sardar Nanak Singh declared that Pakistan could come into being only over his dead body. He said under no circumstances would he accept vivisection of his Bharat Mata.
The next day, on March 5, students of DAV High School took out a big procession to advocate Akhand Bharat and condemn the firing on the students of Lahore. The procession was made up of children. They were joined by students of the Emerson College located near the District Court. Suddenly, and for no reason, armed Muslims attacked the students from all sides. Many of them were seriously injured and some lost their lives.
The news of the attack spread throughout the city like wild fire. The moment Nanak Singh came to know of it, he rushed to the spot, known as Bohr Darwaza, accompanied by many other people, and began to shout slogans like "Long Live Akhand Bharat". He shouted at the attackers, "Are you not ashamed to attack little children? Bharat is Akhand and will remain Akhand. Your devilish designs will not succeed in cutting up the country."
The mobsters surrounded hum and screamed, "This is the devil (who dares to oppose our Pakistan). Teach him a lesson."
Blows of "lathis" rained on him, but the brave patriot kept shouting "Long Live Akhand Bharat!" till he breathed his last on the spot.
Nanak Singh's death infuriated the Hindus, and then the whole of Multan was plunged in bloody riots. Every lane and by-lane saw bloodbath. There were fires everywhere, screams rose high in the air and shouts of "Allah hu Akbar" mingled with the shouts of "Har Har Mahadev", and these could be heard in all directions.
An eyewitness account of Nanak Singh's martyrdom has been sent by Bharat Ratna Kurukshetra, who now lives in England. Punjab Congress Committee President Saifuddin Kitchlew, who had specially come down from Lahore for the meeting, was at Seth Kalyandas' residence at the time of riot. He was the Seth's guest for the night. The same night the Muslims attacked Seth Kalyandas' house as well as many other houses. He and his entire family were mercilessly killed. Dr. Kitchlew was spared only when he could convince the killers that he was a Muslim. (pp. 132-135).

DID NO ONE STAND UP FOR THE DEFENCE OF SECULARISM AND UNITED INDIA?
DID THEY ALL COLLAPSE LIKE A CASTLE BUILT IN SAND? DID ANCIENT INDIA FALL BEFORE THE BULLIES WITHOUT EVEN A PROTEST?
NO. WE HAVE IT ON RECORD, BASED ON EYE WITNESS ACCOUNTS, THAT THERE WERE FIERCE POCKETS OF RESISTANCE TO FIGHT THE MUSLIM TRAITORS.
THERE WERE PATRIOTS WHO DEMANDED REFERENDUM ON THE SUBJECT. THERE WERE THOSE WHO ADVOCATED THE COURSE OF "TEACHING THE BARBARIANS A LESSON", AND THERE WERE THOSE WHO DECLARED THEIR RESOLVE TO RESIST THE BIRTH OF THE ILLEGITIMATE SON ("BASTARD") CALLED "PAKISTAN", TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE BODY OF "MOTHER" INDIA.
BUT DUE TO TREACHERY OF BANDIT NEHRU AND HIS ALL-INDIA CONGRESS PATY, ALL SUCH ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN SUPPRESSED. THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, ESPECIALLY THE HINDUS, HAVE BEEN INTIMIDATED INTO SUBMISSION AND FORCED TO AVOID ANY MENTION OF "PARTITION" OF THEIR COUNTRY IN 1947. THEY HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED INTO CALLING IT "INDEPENDENCE".
THE INDIA IN THE TITLE OF BANDIT NEHRU'S PARTY EMERGED MINUS FIVE PROVINCES OVERNIGHT, AND THE "RASCAL" CARRIED ON AS THE PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA, UNPERTURBED AND UNCONCERNED.
SURELY ONE DAY THE DIRTY NAME "NEHRU" WILL BE REGARDED IN INDIA LIKE THAT UNMENTIONABLE FOUR LETTER WORD, AND, INSTEAD, DUE HOMAGE PAID TO THE TRUE PATRIOTS OF THE YEAR OF PARTITION.
FOREMOST AMONG THEM WILL BE NANAK SINGH, THE HERO OF SECULARISM AND UNITED INDIA, THE MARTYR OF MULTAN.
THOSE WHO REGARD PARTITION AS "HISTORY" NOW, SHOW THEIR OWN INFERIOR ROTTEN GENES AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF UNWORTHY DISHONOURABLE MOTHERS & FATHERS. SOME IDEALS CAN NEVER BE SURRENDERED. SECULARISM AND PATRIOTISM ARE TWO SUCH IDEALS.
