Enlighten me, Mr. Know-all, where in “this world” of yours does one “purchase” the goodies promised in Paradise? Do you have any idea about what the Koran says about Paradise?
The Koran says that in Paradise a man will find:
"Two gardens of a dark green; in each two fountains of welling water; in each, fruit: dates and pomegranates; in them women, smooth, lovely, black-eyed damsels kept in pavilions, which no man has yet enjoyed, nor even a spirit; the believers shall lie with them on green rugs and lovely soft carpets.
As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and high-bosomed virgins for companions: a truly overflowing cup.
Round about them will serve, to them, boys (handsome) as pearls well-guarded; boys of perpetual freshness: if thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered pearls."
And Paradise is eternal.

I would be cautious about buying into stereotypes and simplifications of a complex situation. Some of the 9/11 hijackers were apparently whooping it up in strip joints prior to the hijacking, so they certainly didn't have a problem purchasing what they needed in this world. While visions of a glorious afterlife might help reduce the pain and fear of death, I do not believe that is the dominant factor in producing a terrorist.
Even if the Koran were entirely stripped of that claim, I still believe we would have terrorism. It is a reaction to the falling apart of the Islamic Empire, and not being able to adapt to a modernity where a once might empire and civilization is a backwater. The Koran provides enough "software" (to use a Vinod analogy I like) to produce terrorists even in the absence of Houris in Heaven.

It is not a joke at all that suicide Bombers/terrorists are indeed obsessed with this desire to have sex with "72 Houries" so lavishly granted by Allah (Muhammad) to Jehadi's. Mothers are known to have bid farewell to their sons in Palestine and hoped that at least in jannat, the son will have company of females.
The World Trade Centre attacker on 11th September was not seeing the WTC building. To him it was the Gate to jannat and he was hell excited to experience the Carpeted welcome in jannat by 72 Blossoming Houries, 24 young pubescent Boys and overflowing wines, which incidently, Muhammad ensured, will not be intoxicating.

I do believe that this is the way these terrorists are brainwashed. But, just for the information on this list, the NYT story on the subject makes no mention about the motivation of the terrorists.
