The weak Indian rulers are going to lash out at popular pro-Sikh independence (read pro-Khalistan) leaders now - like Sirdar Simranjit Singh Mann and others - having already arrested Dal Khalsa activists like Sirdars Kanwarpal Singh Bittu, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman and others, on June 08. The Dal Khalsa organizers of the public rally were arrested for organizing a well-attended peaceful procession through the streets of Amritsar - just imagine - on the eve of the June 6 twenty first anniversary of the Indian army attack on the Darbar Sahib. They have been charged for carrying, saffron religious flags (Nishan Sahibs), provocative pictures of the late Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale and photographs of the damaged Akal Takht' destroyed, in June 1984, by the Indian army on the orders of the then Indian Prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Latest reports indicate (Tribune of June 10, 2005, (http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050610/punjab1.htm#10 that, Sikh patriots like the President of Shromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Sirdar Simranjit Singh Mann and some other party leaders have been booked for sedition by the government on the charge of delivering 'instigating speeches' during the party's conference held to pay homage to martyrs of Operation Bluestar in Talwandi Sabo on June 2, 2005. The Talwandi Sabo police has also registered a case against the party general secretary, Mr Charan Singh Luhara, former MP Dhyan Singh Mand, president of party's youth wing Barinder Singh Mann and Gursewak Singh Jawaharke, under Sections 124 and 153 of the IPC. Police sources said Mann had delivered an 'anti-national speech' during the party's conference and had also raised 'slogans of freedom' when he had said that Sikhs were not free and had urged the gathering to raise the slogan of Khalistan (freedom) thrice in defiance. Other reports from Ropar said that, "The district police has registered a case against Mr Simranjit Singh Mann and three others in Anandpur police station for delivering provocative speeches during the "Ghallughara Divas" function held on June 4 in Anandpur Sahib. The Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) had organised a function to mark "Ghallughara Divas" in Damdami Taksal gurdwara in Anandpur Sahib. Earlier, the function was scheduled to be held in the Takht Kesgarh Sahib, but the SGPC did not allow them to hold the function there. While talking to The Tribune over phone, the DSP, Anandpur Sahib, Mr Jasdev Singh, said a case against Mr Mann and three others including Bhag Singh, Bachchan Singh and Sarbjit Singh, had been registered under Sections 124-A, 153-A, 148 and 149. On June 11, 2005, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) President, Sirdar Simranjit Singh Mann, held a press conference in the Circuit House Amritsar where he made short shift of the charges of sedition leveled against him in the media and baited the police to arrest him. Thereafter Mr. Mann went on to address a huge gathering on June 12 at the Damdami Taksal's head- quarters on the occasion of the death anniversary of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the greatest Sikh of the 20th century. On that occassion Mr. Mann, according to the media reports, asked the gathering to raise slogans for Khalistan. According to the TRIBUNE of June 14, despite, "three cases under similar sections of the IPC had been registered against Mr Mann at Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib and Damdama Sahib yet the Police had failed to arrest him so far. (http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050614/punjab1.htm#8 Interestingly, Mr Mann had held a press conference in the local Circuit House despite the registration of cases against him where Mr Mann had openly challenged the police to arrest him. He warned that the Sikhs would hold demonstrations against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his proposed visit to New York if the police arrested him. Earlier, Mr Mann had claimed that raising the demand for creating a `buffer zone' between India and Pakistan was his birth right." End quote. Sirdar Simranjit Singh was being modest. If Mr. Mann and other Sikh patriots are arrested for exercising their right to free speech there will be protests all over the world - if they are not released quickly - by the three million strong Sikh diaspora who, in this age of the internet, are tuned in. One press report has claimed that, "The Majitha police had registered a case of sedition under Sections 124A, 153 A and 153 B of the IPC against Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), for raising slogans of `azadi' (freedom) at the Damdami Taksal's headquarters. While another reported, datelined Chandigarh said that Mr Balramji Das Tandon, former President of the Punjab unit of the BJP, has charged that the Punjab Government was sleeping over the serious issue of slogans of "Khalistan and Bhindranwale Zindabad" raised by certain politicians recently. He also said that, "these politicians were again spoiling the atmosphere in the state and certain forces had become active to throw the state back into the black period witnessed by it for two decades starting from 1980." He sought strick action against these leaders. Like clockwork, another Hindu-fundamentalist organization has jumped into the fray. At a press conference in Pathankot on June 12, the Punjab wing of the Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), has threatened to burn the effigies of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Shiv Sena state vice- president, Parveen Minhas, accused the SGPC of trying to disturb the communal harmony in the state by declaring Sant Bhindranwale a martyr and proposing to build a memorial to him. Minhas claimed that the move was aimed at dividing the state on communal lines just one and a half years before elections as the SGPC was trying to rake up the issue to help the SAD win the elections. Mr Minhas also accused the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, that, "instead of acting tough against the communal forces, he was praising 'hardcore terrorist' Jagtar Singh Hawara." To protest against these moves, Minhas threatened that, "the Shiv Sena would burn effigies of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur and the Punjab Chief Minister, in front of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib. Taking a serious note of the plan of the Shiv Sena and other Hindu fundamentalist organisations to burn the effigies of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and others in front of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, hundreds of SAD (A) activists led by Mr Ravinder Singh Khalsa, SGPC member, have been gathering at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to thwart the attempt of these Neo-Nazi Hindu organisations. The workers of SAD (A) have been keeping a close watch on the gurdwaras around Fatehgarh Sahib particularly at the historic gurdwara. According to the Tribune newspaper the district administration had made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. by deputing Police and civil officials in large number to keep a close watch on the situation. Mr Ranjit Singh Cheema, official spokesman of SAD (A), appreciated the efforts of the administration in making arrangements to avoid a clash. A similar story of Shiv Sena activity has unfolded in Mahrashtra. According to a Mumbai-datelined BBC report, dated June 13, 2005, headlined, "India to deport US missionaries," (http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/1/hi/world/south_asia/4088594.stm four American missionaries have been asked to leave India after the Christian missionaries were attacked by a Hindu mob in India's western city of Mumbai (Bombay) on Saturday evening (June 11, 2005) during a Bible reading session. Police said three of the American missionaries were treated for bruises and cuts in a hospital while one of the assailants was released on bail after allegedly abducting one of the missionaries who are accused of trying to convert local Hindus. The BBC story about attack on Christian missionaries has been confirmed by the Times of India (> http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1140128.cms <) which had written in a June 12 story with a Mumbai dateline, headlined, 'Malad locals beat up American missionaries' that, "Until recently, all the communal clashes that Malad's Malwani village, which became infamous during the 1992 Mumbai riots, had ever witnessed were to do with Hindu and Muslim factions. Then on Saturday night a group of 20 locals barged into a Bible-reading session suspecting a religious conversion and beat up three of the eight US missionaries present. The incident has sent shockwaves through the area." It is obvious that, at this point in time, the political situation in India is in a state of flux. With the right wing forces in a state of confusion because of the 'liberal' antics of BJP supremo L. K. Advani in Pakistan recently, the rest of that motely crowd, and the ruling Congress party, will be sharpening their 'long knives'. They will be out to prove their 'hard' and 'soft' Hinudutva credentials by bashing the monotheistic Christian, Sikh and Muslim minorities in India. Sirdar Simranjit Singh's Mann's arrest by a Congress party government in the Punjab yesterday and the fascist right wing Shiv Sena's attack, on the American missionaries in Mumbai, four days ago are symptomatic of this new development. ..........................000000000
