WHAT HAPPENED TO BENGAL (AND KASHMIR, PUNJAB, in fact, THE WHOLE OF WRETCHED INDIA)

WHAT HAPPENED TO BENGAL?
WHY NOT ALSO ASK, WHAT HAPPENED TO PUNJAB AND KASHMIR?
AND FINALLY, WHAT HAPPENED TO INDIA?
--------------------------
I feel very sad about what has happened to Bengal. Between 1857 and
1947, Bengal produced many of India'a greatest souls: Ramakrishna,
Vivekananda, Aurobindo, Tagore, Netaji, SN Bose, Bankim Chandra
Chatterjee, ... the list is very long. And since 1947, there has been
virtually nobody of any stature (save some musicians and artists) that
has emerged from Bengal. What happened? Why has mediocrity swamped a
great culture? But isn't this also the story of the entire nation of
India?
