The indefinite fast of Sri Anna Hazare, and the spontaneous public and media pressure to act have compelled the government and rejuvenated the civil society to work on war footing for a strong and independent Lokpal institution to begin with. In this backdrop, a group of credible organizations and movements – Lok Satta, Foundation for Democratic Reforms, Transparency International and Centre for Media Studies – are organizing a Round Table Conference with a group of eminent citizens of unimpeachable credentials. This group comprises of distinguished citizens with rich and varied experience in the field of judiciary, legal profession, constitutional authorities, anti-corruption agencies, civil society movements and media. The Round Table on 24th April, in Delhi aims at building consensus and answering specific questions relating to the proposed Lokpal institution and other reforms needed to combat corruption effectively so that no one goes to bed on an empty stomach. The Round Table will be surely bring clarity and consensus on many contentious issues and promote inputs for informed public discourse. The deliberations of the Round Table will facilitate considered decision-making by the Drafting Committee constituted by the government, the political parties, and Parliament.
