THE URDU LANGUAGE

THE URDU LANGUAGE \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ It originated between 14th and 17th century AD from the mingling of slave HINDU prostitutes and the occupying MUSLIM masters (cruel occupation army), mostly soldiers of the MOGUL empire in Lucknow, a large city in the middle of northern India. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The Moguls (Afghans) spoke the PERSIAN language while the native girls spoke HINDI. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The fusion of these two languages in that unfortunate period of Indian history produced a crude new "mongrel" dialect that was eventually taken up by the Muslims across the whole of northern India as their lingua franca. Thus they had acquired something that was not as detestable as Hindi and not as difficult as the Persian language or as alien and foreign as the Arabic language. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ When the new State of Pakistan was created in 1947 out of hatred of the Hindus, Secularism and multiculture, Pakistan’s new leaders had a dilemma as to their new national language that would replace English. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The INDIAN Muslims had suddenly, and most unexpectedly, “captured” the following provinces of India where very different, and mutually unintelligible, languages were spoken:- \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\In the southern province of Sindh, capital HYDERABAD, the native language is SINDHI. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ In the province of Balochistan, cap. QUETTA, the native language is BALOCHI. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ In the province of (WEST) PUNJAB, cap. LAHORE, the native language is PANJABI, or PUNJABI. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ In the province of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), now renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cap. PESHAWAR, the native language is PUSHTO; and \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ In the province of (EAST) BENGAL (then called East Pakistan), cap. DHAKA, the native language is BENGALI. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ NB: 1. Within weeks of separating from India Pakistan invaded the State of Jammu & Kashmir. She still retains NORTH Kashmir where the inhabitants speak the Pothohari dialect of Punjabi and the Kashmiri language. At present North Kashmir is illegally occupied by Pakistan. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ NB: 2. The founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the son of Gujarati parents, spoke NONE of the aforesaid langauges. His mother tongue was Gujarati and he spoke, wrote and delivered his speeches only in the English language. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Since the new rulers did not want to use either HINDI, the language spoken by the majority in (the hated) India, or ENGLISH, the language of the former British rulers, they unanimously agreed on URDU as the national language of Pakistan and imposed it on all as the country’s lingua franca. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This solved the problem of Pakistan's national language, but not for long. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ People still had great love for the languages that their own mothers spoke. They did not immediately warm up to Urdu, the imposition from above and the ad hoc cultural import from India. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The first to discard Urdu resolutely were the proud Bengalis with the highest literacy rate in Pakistan. Bengalis were also the least fundamentalist and fanatic about Islam but have since been given concentrated high doses of brainwashing in “Koran and Islam” through mosques and mullahs with much funding coming from Saudi Arabia. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The Bengalis rejected Urdu, considering it inferior. This led to their revolt in 1953 that was ruthlessly put down. They revolted again in 1971. This time with the help of India they were victorious and renamed their country “Bangladesh”. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ People in the remaining provinces were encouraged, even forced, by the rulers, and compelled by the Constitution, to put the “imported” Urdu language above their own mother tongues. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Profusely borrowing vocabulary from Persian, Arabic, even English, but NOT from Hindi, the Urdu language ultimately developed in schools and universities and has now become the spoken language of the elite and the ruling establishment in Pakistan. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ We see families hailing from Pakistan impressing their friends by speaking in Urdu rather than in the language they speak at home. To them Urdu has become their status symbol. Pakistani print medium, radio and television stations broadcast in the Urdu language. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Finally, it is worth mentioning that there are new “revolts” in the offing across Pakistan, based on linguistic loyalties that will ultimately break up the artificially created country, based only on hatred of India, into four viable linguistic, sovereign and independent countries, e.g., Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the forsaken (West) Punjab wringing her hands in despair in the end.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The only way that the Pakistani Punjab could redeem her honour, dignity and self-esteem is by ridding herself of the ideological and mental slavery of the Arabs and become proud of her own spiritual roots in the soil where Gita and Vedas were written in prehistoric times and Granth Sahib was composed in modern times. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ The blessed soil of Punjab (lit. the “Land of Five Rivers”) is not a desolate barren desert like Arabia but green and fertile. Her air, water, hills, plains and valleys, flora and fauna, are saturated with dazzling beauty and divine excellence. West Punjab will not be coming back to strangers but join the (Indian) East Punjab that has strong cultural and linguistic ties with her. But for this they will have to return their KORAN, ISLAM and ARABIC to Mecca to rest there for ever. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Should West Punjab show courage, vision and wisdom, the prospect of undoing the treacherous folly of Partition is not a distant dream. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 17.02.2012. 000000000
