WOMAN CRUSHED UNDER SHATABDI AS COPS PUSH COUPLE OFF TRAIN

NOIDA: Two railway protection police personnel allegedly pushed a middle-aged couple from a moving Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express at the Muzaffarnagar railway station on Wednesday morning, leading to the woman's death.
The victim, Santosh, 56, was crushed under the wheels of the train while her husband, Rajeshwar Tyagi, suffered minor injuries. The two were standing on the footboard, trying to get into the train's last bogey when they were stopped by the railway cops, Tyagi later told investigators.
The cops, RPF sub-inspector Ram Chandar and constable Subhash, allegedly told the couple that they had the wrong tickets and couldn't board the train. During the argument, Tyagi said the cops pushed them off the train. An alarm was sounded, but before any help could arrive Santosh had succumbed to her injuries.
A case of culpable homicide has been lodged against the RPF men, who have since gone missing, investigators said.
O P Singh, additional director general (NCR) of UP police told TOI that the Muzaffarnagar-based couple wanted to travel to Chandpur in Bijnor. He, however, said the woman could have slipped on her own.
"It was a crowded platform. In an attempt to board the train, the couple tried to enter the last bogey. The woman reportedly held the support handle to enter the compartment. Prima facie it appears that she lost control and fell off. She got trapped between the platform and the train," Singh said.
Tyagi, who works in the UP irrigation department, alleged that the assistant sub-inspector and constable were checking tickets even though this was the duty of the TTE.
R K Bhardwaj, Government Railway Police SP (Moradabad), told TOI that the allegations were being verified. "We have also sought the help of eyewitnesses to piece together what really happened," Bhardwaj said.
Bhardwaj said RPF personnel have no right to check tickets. "If the two RPF men were indeed arguing about tickets, we will mention it in our chargesheet," he added.
