The incident:-
A Muslim boy (14) Ahmed Mohamed created a digital clock made from a pencil case and brought it to his school in Irving, Texas, USA. The teacher, a responsible citizen, thought it was a threat to the society; after the school called police, he was arrested; Police handcuffed him after he told them it was only a clock.
Ahmed said "They arrested me and they told me that I committed the crime of a hoax bomb, a fake bomb, after a brief investigation the authorities released him. Irving Police spokesman Officer James McLellan told the station, "We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only tell us that it was a clock." On Wednesday, police announced the teen will not be charged. Chief Larry Boyd even said "a homemade experiment," was innocuous.
Ahmed further alleged that police didn't apologize for arresting him; he was interrogated by police without an attorney present.
Ahmed has been suspended from school until Thursday.
The Furor:-
The student was profiled because he's Muslim,
More than 1,00,000 tweets protesting the arrest
The school's Facebook page is roiling with sharp criticism of the way the teen was treated, and the hashtag #engineersforahmed is gaining popularity.
Clinton tweeted that "assumptions don't keep us safe" and urged the teenager to "keep building."
"I think this wouldn't even be a question if his name wasn't Ahmed Mohamed," said Alia Salem of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "He is an excited kid who is very bright and wants to share it with his teachers."
Many criticized the school on Facebook. Its creator, Mark Zuckerberg, posted his support
Kevin McKinney posted, "How did a bunch of complete idiots end up accidentally running a school? Were you all yanked out of a zoo and given paychecks? Learning centers are for teaching ... not for ruining innocent people's lives with your racism and pathetic stupidity! ... "This kid is destined to be something great if the dimwits of Irving don't ruin him first."
Chance Williams posted, "Ahmed Mohamed deserves a public apology from you, the school administrators, police, and teachers involved in his arrest I hope he sues, and the school district has to pay for his college education."
The Questions:-
Are we to blame the Teacher who was a patriotic and a responsible citizen? What crime He / She committed, who called in the Police; he / she did not call the Mafia. Right?
And what did the Police do? They did their duty; they interrogated Ahmed Mohamed; which they are supposed to do. It is the one of the primary duties of Police to Suspect, Detain, Question, if necessary to arrest and interrogate.
The devise that Ahmed Mohamed brought to school was indeed suspicious which looked like as an improvised bomb.
After it was discovered that the devise was nothing more than a digital clock, the boy was let off. So, what is the problem?
After 11.09.2011 terrorist attack on America, the American police are naturally hypersensitive about Islamic terrorists. So the Police reaction is understandable and acceptable.
Ahmed Mohamed was not tortured, not sent to Prison, not convicted and sentenced for 4,573 years in Jail. So why this entire outcry by Social media, Politicians and other Celebrities?
Yes, a juvenile was handcuffed, but then, that’s how Americans treat a suspect. So what’s so extraordinary about that?
It is alleged that the 'Police didn't apologize for arresting him; he was interrogated by police without an attorney present'. No need to apologize for discharging legitimate duties and no attorney is required.
Suppose the pencil box really contained a Bomb, then how will the teacher know whether it is a bomb or clock? Can the teacher take the risk of not calling the Police?
If it were a real bomb and it went off killing a number of people? Who would take responsibility?
So, no need to blame the Police.
US cops are right.
They need not feel guilty.
