Friends, October 16,2016
Please see these remarks made of by CEO of JP Morgan in an interview in Washington D C, about United States of America.
“America has the best hand ever dealt of any country on this planet today and ever. And Americans don’t fully appreciate what I’m about to say.”
He continued: “We have peaceful, wonderful neighbors in Canada and Mexico. We have the biggest military barriers ever built called the Atlantic and the Pacific. We have all the food, water, and energy we will ever need. We have the best military on the planet and we will for as long as we have the best economy. And if you’re a liberal, listen closely to me in that one. OK, because the Chinese would love to have our economy. We have the best universities on the planet. They’re great ones elsewhere, but these are the best. We still educate most of the kids who start businesses around the world. We have the rule of law, which is exceptional. If you don’t believe me we can talk about Brazil, Russia…Venezuela, Argentina, China, India. Believe me, it’s not quite there. We have a magnificent work ethic. We have innovation from the core of our bones. You can ask anyone in this room…It’s not just the Steve Jobs. We’re the widest, deepest financial markets the world has ever seen. I just made a list of these things. Maybe I missed something. It’s extraordinary. It’s extraordinary. And we have it today.” Jamie Dimon
Did not India possess all these and more advantages provided both by nature and hand of providence?
We could have made same statement about India in 6th century.
Dancing Siva, relief from cave temple, Badami. 6th century ... --India - Elephanta. Siva as Mahadeva in rock cut temple. 6th century Rock carvings of Dancing Siva and Mahadev in 6th century India.
India's golden age lasted several centuries until 6-7th centuries. Emperor Harsha was the ruler then. India's map included much more vast areas, Afghanistan. Pakistan did not exist, China was further away with Tibet in between. Tibet remained independent. China and India were not only good neighbors but also Chinese had reverence for India . And one could travel , Chinese pilgrim, Huan Tsang did, all the way from Kabul to Kanyakumari without coming across a single Moslem or a mosque. Instead Hindu temples and Buddhist Viharas abounded in the lands, to day known as Afghanistan , Pakistan On top Himalayan range provided fortress wall and remaining parts of India were guarded with defense moats in the form of three oceans. Oceans or seas on this earth are filled with salt water - water is liquid, Drava means liquid, so those who lived in the part of India surrounded by seas are called Dravida. Arya means noble. Sri Rama was addressed as Arya , old time letter writers in South India who were illiterate because they did not know English, addressed each other as Arya. Obviously they did know that Aryans are only north Indians who colonized them, Dravidians. They did not read school texts saying, Aryans and Dravidians are different races, like Saxons from Germany came and took over British isles from Druids, same thing, Aryans from Swiss lakes took over India civilizing barbaric Dravidians. Such baseless pernicious drivel internalized was one of reason why to day we cannot make same statement about India as Mr Jamie Dimon did about USA.
Rivers in India are filled with sweet water, irrigating land of India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Attock to Cuttock helping agriculture, so India became known as Annapurna. So much so it was considered beneath dignity for any householder to take money in return for providing food and shelter. Hence early British attempts to start hotel industry failed as there were plenty of residences, every house in fact provided accommodation and meals for a traveler or a guest gratis.
The reasons for loss of prosperity for such India are several but most telling one is loss of freedom, descent of darkness in the form of Mohammedan invasions followed in due course by British raj.
The generosity became impossible when man made famines coupled with revenue collectors appointed during British raj became leeches sucking life blood out of India's prosperity. Mohammedan rulers by their tyranny prepared ground for any European trader with army to take over. It so happened destiny favored British. Dutch arriving from their colony , Indonesia were stopped in South India by victorious Dravidian forces while in north Aryans chose to help British against tyrannical Surajuddaula in Bengal.
A friend of mine sent me a copy of marriage invitation during the days of British raj, it listed for the guests amounts of rice, pulses, sugar etc to be brought with each person for the function so that they can be cooked to be served for the occasion. Great fall from high standards of living to such depths when food to be served had to be asked from guests becomes evident .
Of course British alone cannot take credit for famines . Famines in the land of plenty started with their predecessors, Mohammedan invaders variously hailed even to day. For instance during the reign of Shajehan, there was severe famine in Gujarat, we are told the merciful emperor spent some thing like Rs 1 lakh to open a soup kitchen. What was not told was , at the same time he spent Rs 10 lakhs on his harem !
Please also see ref 1 for more sordid details of Shahjehan which were buried along with him in Taj Mahal by eminent historians.
When people were dying like flies, the Sultans, Mughals , later Viceroys feasted and loot never stopped. Do see fun and frolic ref 2, how both Brits along with rich in India partying while millions were destitute. At about same time same fate fell on poor in Britain too. You can see it in the documentary (2). Victorian England was at its imperial zenith ,yet at the same time with very poor standard of living for its people which improved only after England relinquished its empire. This is not dissimilar to what happened to places of origin of earlier looters like Gazni or Ghori. The lesson of history is clear, ill gotten loot never is conducive to well being of the looter, his family or his place of origin.
Therefore to day we cannot make any such statement about India just as Mr Jamie Dimon of J P Morgan did. Same or even better advantages nation of India once had got lost due to our own actions, some of which were even worse than those of alien invaders.
To day India. has worst neighbors, Pakistan and China. This arose not during British reign but after independence was granted with a psuedo-Pundit in charge. If instead there was a real Sanatani, there were some like Hindu nationalists Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel, were in charge, this situation, Pakistan within natural frontiers of India would not have materialized . Besides Pakistan which was dismissed just few weeks before as fantastic nonsense by the signatory to partition deed, other assets military barriers were also systematically dismantled. What was viewed as formidable natural barrier, Himalayas were allowed to become highways of invasion. Himalayas were good fences that kept China and India as good neighbors for 5000 years.
Despite all the loot, British took good care of their crown jewel, by making buffer states on both sides of India, Afghanistan and Tibet so that they do not have to share their loot with others.
US did not concede any part of its territory to any adversary, instead it took by force or by purchase territories from those both near and far. Alaska was purchased from Russia in 1867 became State in the union in 1959. It added territory, The land added 586,412 square miles (1,518,800 km2) of new territory to the United States. Some biggest states is USA, California ,Oregon and Texas were wrested from Mexico and were annexed, adding more than a million sq mile territory.
In contrast we suffered from allergy to having a large country. While canvassing for China as an unpaid foreign minister for Mao, India's Prime Minister spurned US offer of support to India to take seat in UN security council , he said big country like China should have it instead. And make sure that India stayed smaller, kept donating islands to all and sundry. US islands stretch to Guam , in Pacific ocean, to parts of Cuba in Atlantic ocean. Hawaii along with Alaska ,50 th and 49 states admitted to Union in 1959.
In 1959 Dalai Lama fled to India from Tibet , his government ceased, Chinese occupation and usurpation became complete. And in a short order India lost 60,000 sq miles of territory, where not even a blade of grass grows and soon after wrote of Assam , saying that his heart goes to people of Assam. See the contempt despite vociferous Hindi-Chini bhai, bhai shouts, Chinese held for Nehru and India in ref 4. China's Chou en lai was wrong of course when he portrayed Nehru as harboring imperialist ambitions , Chou did so in order to justify Chinese expansionism to Nixon.
US and India share intertwined events thus. While one was emerging into freedom the other was going under same imperialists. After losing American colonies, Britain got compensated by gaining India. Cornwallis surrendered in America to rebels, but became Governor General in India serving East India company. While one country was emerging into freedom the other was losing it, when one was expanding other was shrinking despite attaining freedom. Thus though both countries are blessed with natural resources , protective barriers, gap became wider due to difference in time span of freedom, US has been free for 200+ years while India just reached 70 years.
What does future hold then for India ?
Future will be great. To paraphrase present day American election slogan, India will be great again.
Even though freedom and independence were lost ,India retained the greatest assets, culture and civilization intact at great cost. Both of them served well the country and people. History attests to it, as can be seen in India until 6th century and subsequently in islands of freedom amid oppressive regimes during 13-15 th centuries as in Vijayanagar.
Now the conditions are such much more area of India is free and unfettered.
India has emerged away from being tethered to parity with breakaway non-state Pakistan and is now matching wits with China . With growth rate surpassing China at the moment and far exceeding US, it is only a matter of time, perhaps by 2025 India will attain the same status .
There were many Himalayan blunders , legacies needlessly imposed on India during recent past. It is impossible for Pakistan to stay peaceful, hence will provide opportunities to India to amend some of Himalayan blunders. So at least either as a federation if not union, India's frontiers will likely to extend to Khyber and Bolan as it was in the days of yore. Great deal of strategic and other benefits are bound to present themselves with undoing of partition one way or other, to people on both sides of Radcliff line thereby. Then India will have friendly neighbors on one side at least. Afghanistan and Iran do not suffer from pathological hatred of Pakistan's ISI towards India.
On the other side despite Chinese occupation and more claims , calling Arunachal Pradesh their part, Himalayas do pose a problem to China. Moreover with a determined India in place to defend herself rather than acquiesce Chinese intrusion with Chicken Biriyani, it is unlikely China will take to adventurism again. Instead it will see advantages to build bridges of understanding, amity with other Asia's giant. That development will do good to both nations as well as to world order.
Growth rate being fastest, Indian economy will acquire strength to become no 2 or 3 or even 1 soon, after all it was only 200 years back India's contribution was 30% to world economy. The same or more can be attained again with mega projects already in planning such as linking rivers. Linking Ganga and Cauvery will have more than monetary and mundane benefits it will produce emotional integration of the nation giving rise to sharing spirit all round, making regionalism and such narrow minded short sighted politics things of past . And in the process with Govt and Private sectors cooperating in the endeavor, Ganga once again becomes clean river.
Raja Ravi varma portrait of Indian ladies in regional dresses. Let songs of melody be heard in harmony as it was in the past, once again in near future.
Raja Ravi Varma painting shows Indian women dressed in regional ...
India will make giant strides in space .
More important unfettered will be imagination of people. One time it was difficult to imagine India being an independent country, even thought of it was self censored. From those days to reaching Moon and Mars , India made great strides, there is no reason why further progress cannot be achieved as well in this area.
Vast improvements will take place in conducting agriculture, using resources like water , irrigation efficiently and productively.
All such efforts will bear fruit because corruption will be curbed, hopefully with iron hand to put fear into hearts of crooks.
With all such things taking place India will become a model for others to emulate. All good things go together, people in general in the world will take interest in India's cultural noble values. And in turn they will add to bring happiness in existence world over to various people and places.
Best wishes, G V Chelvapilla

2.5 million Indians fought for Britain in the 2nd world war. About a 1000 Indians were taken as POWs by the Japanese in Borneo and Burma. Only 150 survived. The hypocrisy of the British is shown in this documentary in how they conned their colonies to fight in WWII on their behalf. They promised India independence if they helped fight the war for them. About 150,000 colonial soldiers died for them in the war. ( Thanks to Sri Kasi Viswanath who sent me the link)
