LETTER TO THE TIMES, LONDON
Maharaja Ranjit Singh
Thu, 12 Mar 2020
In his letter to the Times, London, dated 7th March,
Lord Lexten writes that Maharaja Ranjit Singh conspicuously
failed to instil martial prowess within his family.
This is an injustice to the Lion of Punjab, who
was not just a brilliant ruler but a great family
man, too. His wife Jinda was an active and vigorous
Queen. She was carefully observing her husband's
commendable role and knew very much about
the martial traits and other protocols.
When the Maharaja passed away, crown prince was
very young and when he was crowned, he was
denied the rights and privileges which go with his status.
At that time the Maharani was intentionally forced not to
provide visible guidance, advice to him.
In the Imperial interests the young Maharaja was exiled to the UK.
The Britishers knew that the under age Maharaja was a symbolic
entity for his subjects. The Maharani was compelled to go away
from the British India and she took refuge in Nepal.
Thus in the UK, the Young Maharaja Duleep Singh did not
have aniy proximity with his ancestral spiritual, cultural
values.
